Keep the mud out!
This is a title that deserves an exclamation point. We’ve all heard the saying “April showers bring mud to houses.” Okay, that’s not quite the saying, but it only takes a quick glance at the muddy footprints across your floor, or a peak out the window at your mud pit of a yard, or head outside on a “warm” Wisconsin day to know that it’s true. So how do you keep that mud from ruining your beautiful flooring?
1. Use mats (if you have hardwood flooring, make sure you put proper pads under your mats). Make sure everyone that walks in takes off their shoes. It seems simple, but the best, and most obvious, is to keep the mud by the doors. Once everyone is done defrocking, simply pick up the clumps, vacuum the mat and mop any stray mud off your hard floors.
2. Spot shot. For those of us who don’t have the luxury of having mats and hard flooring at our entrances—or for those of us whose kids or pets disregarded our “STOP!” command—it’s time for more drastic measures. Today’s carpeting is pretty stain resistant, but stock up on a carpet stain remover and plenty of rags.
3. Keep a regular carpet cleaning schedule. The good news—carpet cleaning services are economical, especially when you factor in extending the life of your flooring. Contact Y’s Way Flooring to set up a carpet cleaning schedule for you.
4. Make sure you are using the right cleaner for your floors. If you have hardwood flooring, vinyl, ceramic or carpeting, double check your cleaners and flooring instructions. You need to battle the Wisconsin elements with cleaner that will not damage your floors.
