10 tips for keeping your wood floors beautiful through the winter
Hardwood floors are one of the most durable flooring options, and also one of the vulnerable during our Wisconsin winters. With all the time and money you’ve invested in your wood floors, you don’t want to “throw them to the wolves”: the parties, snow, ice, traffic and seasonal décor. It’s true; winter can be your solid wood floor’s enemy—if you don’t take precautionary steps to keep them beautiful:
Sweep daily to clean up the debris that could scratch the floors.
Put rugs by all your doors to keep the snow out.
Wipe up spills immediately.
Add felt pads to all your chairs and furniture (including folding chairs).
Be careful when moving furniture so you don’t scratch your floors.
Have guests remove their shoes so they don’t track water and gravel in.
Don’t steam clean your wood floors (read why here).
Use the recommended cleaning products.
Follow cleaning instructions to a “T” so you don’t void the warranty.
Put protectors (mats, rugs, etc.) under dog crates and holiday trees to protect your floors.
